Integrating BIM & Augmented Reality

While researching on BIM(Building Information Modeling) here at TCC in GNDEC, Ludhiana, I’ve been going through many interesting topics. One of the fascinating topic is of AR(Augmented Reality). Whereas, a recent augmented reality game Pokemon Go has driven the world crazy by a storm.

What if such concepts are applied to BIM, Engineering and other fields?

There comes a mobile app named Augment. I tried that and it was a wonderful experience. The user interference is simple. The app reads OBJ file.

The app comes with plugins of various designing software like Revit, 3DS Max, Sketchup, etc. I’m a Revit user so I downloaded its plugin and exported the OBJ format of my Revit file then uploaded that file to the augment server.

Right now, such technologies are in developing stage and a lot more can be done. The near future is VR(Virtual Reality). Who knows one day we won’t require CAD drawings on the construction field. I’ll post about that as soon as I get VR Headset.
